Wuxi Municipal Library  

Built in 1912, the precursor of the Wuxi Municipal Library was the Wuxi County Library, which was one of the earliest public libraries in China. As the major building of the library, the old clochard used to be the tallest building in Wuxi, and it became the symbol of Wuxi. In the year 1949, the people’s government took over the library and renamed it as “Wuxi Municipal Library”. According to Mr. Rong Desheng’s will, the Rong Family donated 60,000 collected books and 3,765 sets of 53,263 traditional thread binding books from his own library, and this is an important characteristic of the library’s collection.

The Wuxi Municipal Library was officially opened on October 1st, 2000 and all-round opened to the public on July 1st, 2002. Located in the southern part of the Taihu Public Square, the total area of construction is 26,851 square meters. The main building of the new Library has 13 floors, and there are 7 annexes inside. Now, the Library has 1,250,000 books, which includes 300,000 ancient books, 1,146 rare editions and 20,000 Wuxi local materials. The Rong Library has 110,000 books donated by the Rong Family; the Friendship Library has 10,000 Japanese first editions, these two libraries also become the characteristic collection of the Wuxi Municipal Library.

Jiangnan University Library

The collection has 1.86 million volumes of paper books and 1.29 million volumes of electronic books. Biological engineering, food science and industrial design are the features of the library.
