Wuxi Tourism overview

Wuxi, the pearl of Taihu Lake, is a famous cultural city with history of over 3,000 years located in the south of the Yangtze River. As early as in the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC – 221BC), Wuxi has become the economic and cultural center, breeding a lot of men of literature and writing. Wuxi is under the administration of Jiangsu Province and located in the Yangtze River Delta Region. Wuxi is 128 kilometers to Shanghai in the east while 183 kilometer to the Jiangsu provincial capital city of Nanjing in the west. 
Wuxi covers an area of 4,650 square meters, of which 518 square meters is the urban area. Wuxi administrates seven districts of Chong’an District, Nanchang District, Beitang District, Xishan District, Binhu District, Huishan District and New District together with two cities of Jiangyin and Yixng. 
Wuxi belongs to the sub-tropical maritime climate zone, with four distinct seasons. It is blessed with a mild climate, plentiful rainfall and ample sunshine. The annual mean temperature is 15.5 degrees centigrade, with a January average of 2.8 degrees centigrade and a July average of 28 degrees centigrade. The city has 250 frost and ice-free days. Rainfall occurs mainly in the summer, with an annual average precipitation of 1,048 mm. Under the impact of complicated factors such as Taihu Lake waters and hilly areas in southern Yixing, certain parts of Wuxi possess diversified climatic conditions good for growing a variety of crops in both the southern and northern parts. 
Wuxi, one of the China’s excellent tourism cities and one of the China’s top ten tourism cities, is richly endowed with natural resources and tourism resources. Taihu Lake, the miracle in the Wu area, integrates the beauty of lake and sea and the scattering of “seventy-two peaks” in the lake displays picturesque scenery to tourists. Meiliang Lake Scenic Spot, one of the most beautiful parts of Taihu Lake, displays the scenery of cluster of mountains and lakes. The modern garden architecture of Turtle-Head Peninsula, Liyuan Garden and Mey Blossom Garden also added beauty to Taihu Lake. The Xishan and Huishan Scenic Spots are crowned the title of “open-air historical museum” because of the ancient springs, gardens, temples andtowers. 
Wuxi has a batch of tourism attractions reflecting the ancient oriental cultures and full of magical colors like the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and the tourism attractions of places of interest and historical sites like the Jichang Garden and the “World Second Spring”. 
Karst cave, bamboo sea and forest ecological tourism sites and the pottery culture tourism industry in Yixing and the beautiful natural scenery, former residence of Xu Xiake and Liu Tianhua in Jiangyin and the Wu Culture Park in Wuxi have become the characteristic and attractive tourism resorts. 
Since 1990s, Wuxi has stepped out of the single tourism limitations and entered the field of modern tourism. After CCTV established a film location base in Wuxi, a batch of characteristic attractions were founded in succession, attracting many tourists. 
Currently, Wuxi has become a hot city in tourism in China.
