雅思考试，即国际英语语言测试系统（International English Language Test System，简称 IELTS），由英国文化教育协会、IDP 教育集团和剑桥大学外语考试部三方共同组织，是为那些打算在以英语为交流语言的国家和地区留学或就业的人们设置的英语语言水平考试。其成绩在全球 140 多个国家和地区、超过 11,500 所教育机构、专业协会和政府部门得到认可，并且在 2 年内具有效力。
雅思考试的分为两类：学术类（A 类，Academic）和培训类（G 类，General Training）两大种类。
学术类（A 类）：适用于出国留学申请本科、研究生及以上学位，或获得专业资质时使用。例如，若你想前往英国、美国、加拿大、澳洲等国家攻读本科或硕士学位，A 类雅思成绩是众多院校申请的必备条件之一。像英国的牛津大学、剑桥大学，对本科和研究生的雅思成绩要求较高，通常总分需达到 7.0 分及以上，部分专业甚至要求更高。
雅思考试全面考察考生的听、说、读、写四个方面的英语能力。
听力：考试时间为 40 分钟。听力内容分为 4 个部分，共计 40 道题。在第一部分可能是一段日常对话，如租房场景；第二部分可能是关于公共服务设施介绍的独白；第三部分通常是学术讨论场景；第四部分则可能是一段学术讲座。
阅读：要求考生在 60 分钟内阅读 3 篇文章，完成 40 道题。文章体裁多样，除了常见的记叙文和议论文，还可能包含非文字性的内容，如图表、插画等。文章来源广泛，涵盖书籍、期刊、报纸杂志等，考生无需具备专业知识。例如，可能会有一篇关于生物科技发展的科普文章，或者对某一历史事件的研究分析文章。
写作：考生需在 60 分钟内完成 2 篇作文。第一篇要求大约 150 字，内容通常是描述给出的表格或图表，旨在考查考生描述和分析数据的能力。例如，给出某城市过去几十年的人口增长数据图表，要求考生进行描述和分析。第二篇大约 250 字，内容是讨论某个问题或论证某个观点，注重语法和结构。如探讨科技发展对社会的影响这类常见话题。
口语：考试时间均为 11 - 14 分钟，分为 3 个部分，采用一对一面试的形式。旨在考察考生的日常会话、话题描述及与考官之间的互动能力。第一部分是简单的日常话题交流，如询问考生的兴趣爱好、家乡等；第二部分会给出一个话题卡片，考生有 1 分钟准备时间，然后进行 1 - 2 分钟的描述；第三部分是基于第二部分话题的深入讨论，考官与考生进行互动交流，探讨一些抽象或复杂的问题。
